We say the advent of technology has brought a sea change in the development and world has become a Global village, We say we can build houses on Mars, We find things to bring us pleasure with a relentless pursuit but how about bringing smile on many poor and illiterate? Does it cost one his/her smile to contribute a little for a child’s smile? Or do we enjoy seeing a pale face, confused, not active, just dull and innocent? Is this a sight that we like to see in our own home or street or country or the world? None will certainly like. I find kids without education out there, some toiling for life by working, some forced and some dreaming of getting educated and the global village we see may remain an alien planet for them. It does not contribute to make them smile, does it? Man has failed to learn from animals - they stick to a herd, flock or group. They maintain uniformity. Humans just do not.
In many countries, education to all remains a dream. People can be classified into F A C E S O – viz. Fighters, Awakeners, Escapists, Supporters, Critics and Opportunists. The society has people divided into these categories and they make or break the society.
Children play an important role in the society. “Child is the father of man”, said William Wordsworth. The statement places the role of a child at a very important place in the society and life. Children from 5-10 years get through the most pivotal phase of growth. Their physical, intellectual, emotional growth depends on the way they are brought up and also upon their nutrition. Thus a child can be best shaped into a great citizen.
Education is the child’s raison d'ĂȘtre. Education is an important part of a child’s life and is as well a right for them to enjoy it. It will nurture him intellectually thus preparing him to address the responsibilities at the family and societal level. Just imagine if children are bereft of this aspect how will their future be? How will they address their needs, necessities? Who dares to come forward and provide them these if one is not given education? The optimal solution will be providing them education so as to make them stand on their feet. Education is that boon that can cater all the needs of an individual. It helps him to live on his own and earn enough to address his important needs viz. food, clothes and shelter.
A quid pro quo education system will work wonders, just like food for education. How to implement this remains the very vital question. Who does it and How? This is a scourge across the globe, none have mastered in putting this into perfect implementation because of inefficiency, corruption, lack of interest and well the reasons rain. Many organizations have planned wonderful programs and projects in a relentless pursuit to get a solution to minimise illiteracy. Their success was not thoroughly widespread and could not remove illiteracy everywhere. The stats will certainly indicate it and humble their efforts which may be disheartening to learn. The way education is provided should be revamped mutatis mutandis. It will be a herculean task and not easy with just ordinary efforts. There is a need to reach every nook and cranny, to find the needy and not let them lay neglected. There need to be programs thoroughly covering every part of a nation from a very grass root level that can be implemented with transparency.
After all education is the basic thing that can necessitate the needs for the neglected.
